As we have all witnessed, the coronavirus outbreak has changed the world as we know it. We are all going through it together. It is very scary not knowing what's to come, and that is causing a lot of anxiety. However, it is causing a lot of empathy and acts of kindness as well. I want to focus my energy there as much as possible.
I am in an incredibly privileged position, in general and as it relates to this crisis. I work for a compassionate internet company -- we are all able to easily work from home, with our workflow minimally disrupted. I do not take this for granted in the slightest.
Many, many other people are not as fortunate and will suffer greatly as a result of this event, in ways we might not even be able to imagine yet. People are already losing their jobs. Supplies are scarce. Schools are closed, meaning families that rely on that school lunch are now left to provide it, and many cannot. Many things will be affected by the coronavirus crisis, but one thing in the short & long term that is a definite is that people will go hungry. I want to help.
Inspired by my friends Jeff Lew, Alessandra Brian and many others getting involved, I have started this campaign to raise funds for my local food bank. The San Diego Food Bank is hard at work amidst this crisis providing food to those who need it most, and they are a critical service to many, espeically now. Earlier today, I donated $100 to them to support. Now, I'm asking you to help me raise an additional $1,000!
NOW FOR THE FUN PART: As you may or may not know, I am a musician. Primarily, I play the harp & sing. I also write songs! Since I am practicing social distancing (and you should too!) I have a LOT of time on my hands. So for every $100 I raise on this campaign, I will record & share a video of me playing & singing a song. To make it more fun, if you make a donation here, you can submit a suggestion/request for a song you want to hear. Maybe I'll take it to Instagram for some votes, feel free to follow along there @kelsearaelittle
Essentially, I want to help those in need, find a way to channel my energy during this wild time, and hopefully spread some joy while doing it.
Thank you so much for reading -- sending love to you & your families <3>
