Hello! As part of my humanities capstone project I am conducting an analysis of the applications of music therapy, specifically in regard to how such therapies can be applied to help alleviate some of the mental health challenges associated with homeless populations.
To expand my project beyond the scope of a research paper, I am organizing a fundraiser for Horizons for Homeless Children. Over this past year, I have had the honor of volunteering with this organization as a Playspace Activity Leader (PAL). For a few hours each week, PALs visit a local shelter to play with the children living there. From my personal experience, musical activities such as singing and dancing are very common during this playtime. In addition to providing homeless children with much needed playtime, Horizons also provides access to early education through their early education centers. At these centers, a variety of resources are provided, including music lessons, to ensure that the children are receiving the education they need to be successful. Money donated will go to supplies for the playspaces and funding for the education centers. You can learn more about the organization on their website: http://horizonschildren.org/ .
Any contribution is greatly appreciated and will undoubtedly make a substantial impact on the lives of hundreds of children. For donations of $15 or more to my campaign, I will send you a small collection of handmade, music-themed magnets as a token of my appreciation. (Displayed in photo above)
