My Brother’s Keeper Service Center of Georgia, Inc. is a Georgia 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our sole mission is to help people by providing programs, services and technical assistance to people who are in need or in crisis.
In October 2019, our organization acquired the historic Griffin Hospital and Nurses’ Home property south of Atlanta, Georgia. Our goal is to renovate the property to create a national nursing museum and community services facility. We are currently raising funds to install security fencing around the entire property.
Why do we need Funding for Fencing?
The property has been vacant for over 20 years and the building has been gutted. Over time this has resulted in incidents of people shooting out a number of window panes and squatters on the property. There is one area of the building where somebody apparently tried to start a fire. Also, there is a large parking lot on one side of the building that has for many years been used as a “cut through” for vehicles and as an area for unauthorized cars and trucks to stand and park.
Since we purchased the property, we have spent the last three months removing trash and other debris from the building that was left by the previous owner as well as improving and maintaining the grounds, including installing new landscaping.
Our main goal now is to start renovating the building. We want to start by repairing and restoring the building’s windows, particularly on the front. Renovation is a long process and requires that we use and store lots of expensive equipment on site. There is very little we can do in terms of any kind of repairs, and we definitely can’t store anything at the site without security fencing. So, we need strong fencing – specifically designed to keep out unwanted intruders and stop the flow of “cut through” traffic. That is why this campaign is necessary.
We want to install 8-foot high fencing and gates around the property. Cost: $10,000. Any extra money collected will be used to cover fees associated with the GoFundMe platform. Cost is for materials only. We plan to use volunteers to install the fencing.
Note: ALL DONATIONS ARE TAX DEDUCTIBLE.
