Thank you to everyone supporting us at the NYC Half Marathon this year - we are the MTV Staying Alive Foundation! We are a media movement that believes in young people. We have over 20 years’ experience making game-changing content proven to positively impact young people’s health.
Since the MTV Staying Alive Foundation's inception in 1998, we have reached 3.2 million adolescents, and tested over 270,000 people for HIV. Young viewers of our flagship “edutainment” campaign, MTV SHUGA, are twice as likely to get tested for HIV.
The World Bank estimates that for every $1 invested in MTV Shuga, $150 is returned in health and social welfare to local communities across Africa. However, we can't reach everyone we need to. Many in rural or deprived areas don't have access to TV or internet, and therefore can't access our content or support.
That's where our peer educators come in. They share our vital campaign information and signpost people to local health services, helping to secure better support and wellness for their own communities. We believe and trust in the potential these young trailblazers have to positively shape their futures and those of their peers, and with your help, we'll be able to reach even more young people with life-saving information in this way.
A huge thank you for supporting our runners in the New York Half Marathon, and sending our very best wishes to our incredible runners in the lead up to the big day!
