As you may have heard, UMMC has recently sold The Wellness Center, home of the Jackson metro area's only Olympic distance competition pool, to new investors, "GRIT", who plan to renovate the facility into a new athletic training facility and gym.
The pool was built in 1980 and has had no significant improvements made since. The pool has been MAKOS' home for many years but MAKOS hasn't had the ability to make any improvements, until now.
The new investors have invited Makos to be a part owner in the facility, by directly funding the needed improvements to the pool facility. Every dollar raised will go directly to pool related improvements and be credited to Makos ownership interest in the facility. None of the money raised will be used for any other part of the facility. We can finally improve the pool while also providing a major investment in the stability of Mississippi Makos Swim Team.
Our Facilities committee, with substantial guidance from our coaches, has identified a multitude of needed improvements including, but not limited to, new bathrooms, new gutters, resurfacing and relining the pool bottom and new starting blocks among many other needs.
Not only will this investment help create a quality facility where Makos will train, it will also benefit the wider swimming community. With the help of your donation, Mississippi Makos will continue to provide for its swimmers and the community, well into the future.
If you would prefer to donate or contribute in other ways, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and let us know.
There is so much to be done and we cannot wait to get started. Help us make this project a success. Your donation means so much to our swim family!
