As Spring turned to Summer, and then to Fall, it became clear that the Covid pandemic was going to threaten the very existence of the Mountain Range High School Marching Band. Despite extremely limited rehearsals in the Summer, being shut down entirely for a month in the Fall, and nearly being shut down again just before completing the season, our students found a way. They found a way to carry on the traditions and culture of the band, and to maintain their skills and pass those skills on to a new freshman class. They found a way to get back on the field and learn a short show, despite all the challenges in front of them. They found a way to do what they love--making music together--cautiously and safely, but with the same passion and dedication as any other year.
But now the band needs your help. Due to the pandemic, many of the fundraisers the band normally does have been cancelled. Last Spring, the band lost $10,000 in fundraising--much of which had basically already been spent during the school year. Unless things change quickly, the band stands to lose at least that much fundraising again this year. While we have slashed costs for this year dramatically, we still need to pay our staff, who worked so hard all Summer and Fall to design and teach some kind of show that would work in these unique conditions. The band also needs to replenish fundraising lost last Spring, so that funds will be available when the band is able to return to making music together.
It is our hope that this Thanksgiving season, you will find it in your heart to give thanks for music. Perhaps you are thankful for what music and band have brought to your child or family member. Perhaps you are thankful for the incredible experiences you were able to have as a former member of this band, or another band. Perhaps you are thankful for the insipiring performances and artistry you have witnessed. Whatever the case may be, we hope you will help support the MRHS Marching Band with a donation to keep our program alive and well.
