Get a move on to help refugee & immigrant communities in Washington!
For 45 years, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) has been welcoming newcomers from all over the globe to Washington state. Each year, the IRC in Seattle helps 2,500 refugee and immigrant community members through a wide range of culturally-responsive, trauma-informed programs designed to help people achieve their short- and long-term goals.
The IRC Move-a-Thon encourages folks to get outside, while raising funds for newcomers in our community. Over the past year, the pandemic has presented many challenges for the people we help at the IRC, but it's also shown the tremendous power we have when we come together as neighbors to support one another. The Move-a-Thon is a chance to take collective action toward a more welcoming Washington for all.
From May 1 – 31, 2021 participants will track their miles and raise funds to support the IRC's local programs helping refugee and immigrant communities in Washington. At the end of the month (date TBA) we'll have a fun, virtual closing ceremony and announce prizes for individuals and teams who log the most miles and/or raise the most funds.
All are welcome in the Move-a-Thon. We encourage participants of all ages to join, making this a great opportunity to engage the whole family. While the Move-a-Thon is a friendly competition, it's not a traditional race. All kinds of "person-powered" activities where you can track distance are welcome: running, hiking, cycling, roller blading, paddling - you name it!
