In celebration of Mother’s Day, please consider making a donation to support the moms who have committed themselves to changing their lives and making better lives for their children by coming to the Center for Great Expectations.
One of the moms at the Center for Great Expectations shares her thoughts about being a mom. “Motherhood isn’t about a journey free from struggles. It’s about never giving up despite those struggles. The overwhelming quality I see in myself and my fellow mothers here at CGE is this unique perseverance in the face of great difficulty and pain, all for the love of our children. My experience of motherhood before sobriety was one of fear as my child and my addiction battled for priority as the biggest motivator for my decisions and shame when my daughter lost out over and over again. Recovery has been a rebirth to a new freedom, to life where I can choose my daughter every day without a fight. My recovery has become an example to my daughter for a past I cannot change, and an endless spring of hope for a future where nothing will come between us but love. Being a mom in recovery feels like Christmas every day, the constant gift of giving my daughter the love of a mother that she deserves, and a childhood she doesn’t have to recover from. The word that springs to mind when I think of being a mom is joy.” R.
