Grab your donuts...
On January 20th, the Morning Cranks will be spending most of 24 hours riding their bikes in the snow, ice, cold and whatever else a winter in Michigan might throw our way. We're not doing this to prove a point or because we've lost my minds (though debatable)- We're doing this to raise money for the amazing Back Alley Bikes
Back Alley Bikes is a nonprofit community bike shop that aims to provide cycling education and services with a focus on youth development, sustainable practices and community access. Their main program is Youth Earn a Bike. Through this program young people learn how to build and repair a bicycle and at the end of the program get to take home a bicycle that they built themselves. This doesn't just provide kids with a bike, but also with real world skills on working with their hands, a sense of accomplishment, the independence of being able to get around in a city with poor public transit, and also a really cool way to get around town. All the bikes for Earn- A- Bike are used bicycles donated by supporters and most of the staffing for these programs are volunteers. You can rest assured that any money you donate will go toward the staff that train the volunteers, needed supplies and tools, and expenses for other great programming.
So keep us warm while we spend a day biking in the cold, and donate to help kids get on bikes.
