Everyday 40 elementary aged kids run off the school bus and straight into the Bryant Community Center. Once inside there is a mixture of chaos, peace, and of course: hugs! The kids are finally here! The staff have spent the last few hours getting the space ready, cooking dinner, and prepping for their arrival. Volunteers are eagerly waiting for the kids to help them with their homework, to hear their stories, and generally care for them after a long day at school. Bryant Community Center offers many services to the low-income community in Ann Arbor but the center is not just a place to access resources, it's a second home to so many of our clients. The staff at Bryant Community Center (a CAN operated community center) treat CAN clients as family and it shows in their interactions and participation levels. But as you all know, “homes” need updating especially when your family is growing.
We are happy to announce that this year BCC is getting a makeover. This is where you come in! With our growing services (see list below) and clientele come more expenses. The construction is underway and now is the time to start prepping for the grand re-opening expected in the fall of 2018. If you would like to see this space continue to be a beacon of light for so many beloved community members, then please consider giving. The Buhr Foundation has so generously committed $30,000 towards a match program: meaning every dollar you donate will have double the impact! So many community members count on Bryant and its services and we are eager to give them a community center they deserve, that this city deserves. This is More Than A Building, it's home.
After school programs: includes homework helpers, literacy enrichment, intentional social-emotional development, dinner, & fun!
