Join Williams Empower Through Health (ETH) in our 1st Annual MOOve for Mental Health 5k! In honor of World Mental Health Day on October 10th, we at Williams ETH are kicking off fundraising for the first-ever psychiatric clinic in Busoga, Uganda..
The weekend of October 9-12 we are encouraging everyone interested, both within the Williams community and beyond, to get outside and run/walk/bike a 5k in hopes of bringing awareness to the global mental health crisis, as well as raising funds to begin on-the-ground work at the Mpunde Health Center. Physical activity has been proven to have powerful effects for our mental health and wellbeing; whether we live in the chilly Berkshires or a rural community in Uganda, getting outside and moving is something that we can all get behind.
Here are just some of the ways your donation will help families:$10, the price of one dinner at Paresky, would allow a paid psychiatric nurse to be stationed at our clinic throughout the day.
$6, the price of a movie ticket at Images, would pay for 50 tablets of 2mg Risperdal (anti-psychosis/mania medication) enough to treat a patient for up to a month; they would be able to work, to interact with family, and to be free from their illness.
$7, a large iced chai at Tunnel, would compensate a member of our Village Health Team for their up to 18 miles trip, as they travel across the region to reach patients who otherwise do not have access to healthcare. As the VHTs care for patient needs, make sure they stay on medication, and let them know they are not alone, your donation would in turn help the VHT and their families to stay well and keep on helping others.
Thank you for your support; anything you are able to offer will assist us in our mission to collaborate with the Busoga community to work towards life-changing improvements in health outcomes.
