Co-founded in 2011 by Dr. Joanne Roussy and Dr. Barbara Fitzgerald, Mom2Mom works to reduce the incredible stress and isolation of poverty by connecting lower-income moms to a community of support.
The Mom2Mom model is based on volunteers providing respectful, non-judgmental support to other moms and children. Both partners benefit from the relationship as the volunteer witnesses first hand the strength of women living in poverty and their incredible ability to care for their children against very tough odds. In turn, the moms benefit from volunteers' material advantages and practical help for parenting and navigating the system. Volunteers also link moms to other moms in their neighbourhood, to their children’s school and to existing community-based resources.
Mom2Mom strongly believes that when moms thrive, children thrive. We hope to level the playing field so that resilient, loving mothers can raise healthy children who finish school and go on to lead happy and productive lives.
