In honor of our beloved leader, Molly Chernofsky, z"l, on Sunday, November 3, 2019, our team will join hundreds of other members of the Long Island community at the CancerCare 17th Annual LungCancer Walk for Hope. We will come together with a unified goal to raise funds and increase awareness about lung cancer and CancerCare's National Lung Cancer Program. As we walk, we will celebrate survivors and remember loved ones.
Last year was our third team Walk. It was so moving to see so many others affected by this devastating disease, that our team was inspired to continue our mission again for future years to help families through the toughest times of their lives. Please be sure to check out our photographs from previous years' Walks!
We hope to increase our impact this year, adding to the $8,800 raised since our first walk in 2016.
Molly was very active in Women’s League for Conservative Judaism, having served as Regional President of the BQLI Chapter, and as Recording Secretary of the international organization beforeher life was cut short, just 5 weeks after her diagnosis. In July 2017, Molly was lovingly remembered at our WLCJ Convention in Arlington, VA at the Installation ceremony of our currentinternational President, Margie Miller. Molly’s legacy continues to be remembered by so many. We hope to expand participation to other synagogues in the BQLI Region this year and hope you will consider joining us!
Our team name was inspired by Molly's first published article in our Temple Beth Sholom Bulletin column called "Sisterhood Scoop":
“You are probably wondering what a scoop of Sisterhood tastes like. Is it sweet as chocolate or nutty like pistachio or just perfect like vanilla and chocolate on a sugar cone? Sisterhood has lots of flavors to entice you. Some are your favorites and some are brand new. We welcome you to try them all!"
Molly's tongue and cheek humor inspired all of us to unite as a community. Molly served as our guiding light, and rose as a kind and compassionate leader of our synagogue and then as part of the BQLI Chapter of WLCJ. We will honor her memory by joining together for this act of lovingkindness.Thank you for joining the Walk of Hope, or for sponsoring someone who is a registered walker.
Together we can lick lung cancer, one scoop at a time!
