AN OPPORTUNITY TO HELP
G.R.E.A.T family and friends, we are posting here with a request we don't usually make. We hope you will find it in your heart to help if you possibly can.
Molly came into G.R.E.A.T Rescue two weeks ago, along with her bonded partner Hunter, due to a break up of her family. Through our extensive vetting process by our amazing vet partners, a medical problem was uncovered that needed immediate attention. It is unlikely that Molly’s problems would been recognized and addressed if she would not have been rescued, and she would have met an early end to her life.
Molly was diagnosed with a mass in her right thyroid by Greenbriar Animal Hospital. A cytology was performed and it was determined to be cancerous. She was referred immediately to Capital Vet Specialists and surgery was scheduled. Upon surgery, the one tumor was removed in the right thyroid but a small tumor was also discovered in her left one as well. Reports have been sent to determine if the cancer has spread beyond the thyroid itself. If there is no spread of cancer, Molly’s metabolic system will need to be addressed, monitored and stabilized to ensure her body is functioning appropriately. Molly will be spending two days in the hospital post surgery and then will be monitored for months to be sure her metabolic system working properly. The cost of this surgery and follow up care is approximately $5,000. Her prognosis of a full, happy life is very good if this treatment is successful.
We did not hesitate to treat this wonderful girl, but when all is said and done, she will have required the most expensive treatment of any dog GREAT has taken in during our 21 year history. Because COVID has affected our normal fundraising efforts, this treatment will take a big chunk out of our coffers. We continue to get dogs in and they will also require vetting.
G.R.E.A.T. is reaching out to you to ask if you will consider donating to Molly's medical bills. You know we rarely ask for monetary assistance for one specific dog, but this is an unusual case, and we want to be able to follow through with the future help she will need.
If you desire to help, you may donate through this GoFundMe campaign, or send donations to G.R.E.A.T. Rescue of NE FL, P.O. Box 600878, Jacksonville, FL 32260, or go to our website, GreatRescue.org, and donate there. Any monies donated beyond the total of Molly's treatment costs will be applied to our general account for other dogs we will take into our program in the future.
Thank you, G.R.E.A.T friends, for your consideration of this request and for your anticipated generosity! You are the BEST!!
