I will be running the Philadelphia Marathon on November 24th, 2019. I will be running in honor of Pedro. I will be running to end gun violence in this country.
Late on the night of October 4th, 2019, my brother's partner, Pedro Ventura, was outside of a nightclub in Asheville, North Carolina when a stranger fired many gunshots into the crowd. Pedro was visiting town from Los Angeles for one night for a wedding, but the course of his life was changed forever. My brother has put together a brilliant GoFundMe campaign to raise money for Pedro's lifelong care. Please donate if you are able.
I spent time with my brother, Pedro, and his friends and family in the immediate aftermath of the shooting feeling utterly helpless and useless. There was nothing I could do to bring back Pedro's previous life. There is still nothing I can personally do to fix Pedro's life. So I am going to use my abilities, time, and energy to try to keep this from happening to anyone else. The Brady Campaign is committed to delivering life-saving change and comprehensive solutions to the American people. We owe it to ourselves, our families, and our communities to keep all people in the United States safe.
Running a marathon is hard. It requires fierce commitment to push past mental and physical hurdles when times get tough over the course of 26.2 miles. I am committed to finishing this marathon. I am committed to fighting for gun reform and gun control. Please help me raise $5240 for the Brady Campaign. That is $200 per mile. It will take all of us to move this country towards basic, sensible gun reform. So we all have to participate. If you are able to donate to this fundraiser, thank you. If you are not, please get involved in gun violence prevention nationally, and locally. You never think it will affect you personally until it does.
