I have been a volunteer at the Modesto Gospel Mission for over a decade and my heart is there. My father loved the Mission and served as a volunteer there for years before his home-going and he passed his love of helping the needy on to me. I never cease to be amazed how little people know about the extent of the services offered by the Mission to the community. It is not just a place where the homeless and needy are fed and sheltered. Some of the other services offered include medical and educational assistance, the 18-month residential New Life Program, a Youth Center and program where an average of 30 youths are served daily in after-school programs and many other activities, and the Freedom Road Day Program where safe refuge is offered to the homeless from 8:30A to 4:45P every weekday. In this setting they are provided with snacks and lunch, Bible and life skill studies, clothing, and case management for necessities such as obtaining ID cards, applying for Social Security or disability benefits, job hunting or meeting housing needs. Many who attend this day program eventually choose to join the 18-month residential New Life Program. Peer Navigation is part of this program, where others who have been through heavy trials and moved forward successfully, provide encouragement. The Mission also provides an extensive program to shelter and assist women and children in the Women's Shelter. Many other services are provided but the vision of the Mission is to eradicate homelessness, one individual at a time, through the process of transformative programs. Their hope is to provide a place of refuge, recovery, and restoration 365 days a year, through the power and love of Jesus Christ. But all of this costs money. My particular interest is feeding the hungry, and finding operating funds for projects that go undone because of a shortage of donations of money or services. I want to establish funds for meeting that type of need. I have become aware, as I help at the holidays or help to prepare food in the kitchen, that often certain things that would help the daily functioning of the Mission, go missing because funds are not available, thus the need for this GOFUNDME page. Please help me to help the Mission and the wonderful people who work there to help the many needy in our community.
