In recent years, Marathons have seen increased popularity throughout the world. I often heard people say that life is like marathon. When I ran my first marathon (2017 TCS NYC Marathon) - Something I never thought I could do - I gained a better understanding of the saying. Training for and finishing my first marathon taught me that with enough will power I could push myself further than I imagined, so running a marathon is actually a test of human endurance. This has become a great life insight for me and taught me that people can discover their true potentials that they may overlook if they keep doing. On one side, running has been a solitary activity for me and gives me time to think and reflect, and on the other side, running with friends especially in preparing for a race can also be very much enjoyable and helpful!
It has been so meaningful for me to run the 2018 TCS NYC Marathon for the Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA), a national cultural institution that tells the untold stories in the making of America through the lens of the Chinese immigrant experience, an organization I believe in and work at.
In 2019, MOCA celebrates the 150th anniversary of the historic moment when a golden spike was driven into the ground at Promontory Summit in Utah to mark the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad. To commemorate this milestone, MOCA launched the MOCA Spike 150 initiative. It is our way of honoring the pioneering spirit of not only Chinese immigrants but all immigrants who sacrificed and dared to take the first step that blazed a path for future generations in America. This year I will run the TCS NYC Marathon again, as well as the Chicago Marathon within 20 days to fundraise for MOCA. The fund I raised will help MOCA present the stories of Chinese Americans and showcase their contributions to America's past, present, and future.
