Join Us - Change Lives!!!
Make-A-Day Foundation is launching an innovative new mobile outreach program for those experiencing homelessness in Central, Ohio.
Donations wil help the Make-A-Day Foundation’s new Community Opportunity & Appreciation Team program“ (COAT) to expand its reach into parts of the community that have been hit hardest by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Make-A-Day’s COAT program will utilize a custom-built Mobile kitchen with a meeting/office space inside, and a pop-up salon outside; as well as a separate Mobile Salon Bus to build confidence, rapport and meet some immediate health, hygiene and beauty needs of those who are living on the streets or living in poverty.
Make-A-Day's innovative mobile "Community Appreciation and Opportunity Team (CAOT)" outreach program meets people where they are - this includes where they sleep and where they are in life’s journey.
In contrast to the traditional, “brick-and-mortar, come to us" approach, Make-A-Day's CAOT program reaches those who are the most vulnerable and least able to proactively access existing community resources. Make-A-Day Foundation’s person-centered philosophy and mobile approach helps us engage people who are often disconnected from our community and its resources.
Appreciation to Connect
Our mobile kitchen starts things off with an act of appreciation by offering a chef crafted, made-to-order meal. Our mobile salon also offers guests a professional haircut, shampoo and styling. By setting the tone with an act of appreciation, we change the dynamic with guests who are frequently treated as invisible and without value.
Opportunities to Change Lives
Make-A-Day Foundation's mobile program also provides a holistic set of opportunities. Our embedded, masterslevel social worker and trained volunteers partner with other agency outreach programs to complete referrals and provide follow ups for health, mental health, substance use care, housing, employment and other health, social service and criminal justice opportunities. Our skilled team leverages their human services expertise and relationships with guests to remove barriers to services, benefits and meaningful connections to the community.
Our CAOT program focuses on those who are chronically homeless or economically and socially marginalized in Columbus. This includes people with disabilities, people with serious mental illness or substance use disorders, survivors of human trafficking, physical abuse and trauma.
As a result of this marginalization and the limitations of the existing social service system infrastructure, our guests are more likely to lack access to healthcare, mental health services, substance use care, housing, employment, social services and smart justice resources than the general population.
By teaming up with peer supporters who have lived experience with similar situations, community health workers and trained volunteers, Make-ADay creates the conditions where relationships can grow and new opportunities can be explored and actualized.
Help Us Change Lives!
Through mobility, food, relationships, love and evidence based practices, Make-A-Day Foundation is empowering our most vulnerable neighbors by connecting them to our community and the benefits and resources that can improve their lives
