For more than 38 years, Monday Night Hospitality has offered hot meals to New Yorkers in need. 80 volunteers prepare a hot meal for up 350-400 New Yorkers each week. They cater to anyone and everyone who may need a helping hand: homeless veterans, families struggling to make ends meet, those down on their luck, it doesn't matter. If you want a hot meal and to be treated with dignity, Monday Night Hospitality is there for you.
I have had the privilege of volunteering with this organization for about 9 months now, and each week I get to play a small part in a truly amazing operation. We make a real impact in the community in which we live not only through serving hot meals but offering job search assistance, free medical exams and many other things. I wouldn't keep going back if I didn't believe in their mission. It also helps that the people there have become friends (one of who convinced me to do a Spartan Race. That's friendship or just insanity).
Monday Night Hospitality is at a cross roads. We are feeding more and more of our neighbors in need each week- usually 400 meals or more every Monday- and helping those folks with social services. But our kitchen was never designed to feed so many. This year, we are looking to renovate our kitchen to add much needed fridge and freezer space. This will allow us to accept large food donations and even start a food pantry to give groceries to our guests. It would help us serve more people, and help the community in so many ways.
Will you help us with this goal? Even a small amount will help.
