Many of you have received my updates for several years now on my participation in Minds Matter Boston and I am excited to share some amazing updates on Lynn Tyia's progress this year!
Last year I had the chance to write you about Lynn-Tyia's dreams - to attend Brandeis and pursue a degree in law. This year I am so excited to share with you an update on her ACCOMPLISHMENTS! Lynn-Tyia is now a proud freshman of Brandeis University, having received a full ride through a combination of need and merit based scholarships! What a whirlwind this last year has been. Some awesome highlights below:
- Receiving the phone call from Lynn-Tyia telling me that she got in early action to Brandeis
- Attending Lynn-Tyia's High School graduation and watching her perform Rise Up as the only performer selected by her classmates
- Going back to school shopping with Lynn-Tyia at Target and picking out all the necessities from pillows and bedding to fun stuff like wall decorations
- And my personal favorite: finding out that Lynn-Tyia was one of only two freshman admits to her Acapella group (Company B) and that the ONLY other admit was my awesome cousin Max LeBlanc! They now get to hang out weekly
While I am no longer attending sessions every Saturday for mentoring sessions with Lynn-Tyia, we still keep in touch. I am especially excited about going out to her and Max's acapella concert in December.
Minds Matter is a very lean organization, currently serving 94 low-income, high achieving students with over 200 unpaid volunteers. The donated funds provide: weekly ACT tutoring, funding for academic summer programs, writing instruction, and expert advice on the college application and financial aid process. Every dollar counts!
