Mindy and Andre here. Yup, that’s us, supporting survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and their children. I guess you can say there’s nothing we won’t do for the Fort Bend Women’s Center. Seriously people, I’m wearing a humongous, purple, pirate’s hat, with a parrot on my shoulder, IN PUBLIC! And Andre? Enough said. You'll be happy to hear that we are not going to ask you to dress up like a fool but we are going to ask for your support . See that big, ole, purple DONATE button :)
This year, the Fort Bend Women’s Center turns 40 and for 35 of those years we’ve given our time, talent and treasure to help over 50,000 women and children. And, our work continues. Andre and I are on the STARS Auxiliary 40 for 40 crowdfunding team, with 40 other volunteers, to raise $40K for the Fort Bend Women’s Center 40th anniversary. Pssst. I founded the STARS Auxiliary. So honored to be asked to be a part of this amazing effort.
So why do we do what we do? We do it for children like Jacob and for women like his mom.
This is Jacob's story:
Jacob was just 8 years old when he was front and center for the verbal and violent attacks on his mom. Jacob was terrified and worried about his mom all the time. When Jacob and his mom came to us, he was scared, worried sick (literally), acting out and failing in school. They stayed with us, in the Shelter, where he went through our children’s program and his mom went through our Healing and Hope programs and our neurofeedback training (a behavioral therapy, that helps clients living with TBI and PTSD), that then put them on the path to living independently as part of our affordable housing program.
Eventually, Jacob started smiling, laughing and playing again. Jacob went from failing in school to straight A’s. When his counselor asked him why he thought he was doing so well in school, Jacob replied; “I can do my homework now. I feel safe and I don’t have to worry about my mom anymore.”
It's been 35 years for us with the FBWC so you can imagine how many stories we've heard. Every story breaks our heart but every story makes us work even harder towards helping to provide healing and hope to survivors and their children
so they can go on to live lives without violence and fear, with dignity and respect, with confidence and self-reliance and with happiness and hope.
But it takes a lot to be successful at it and we're asking for your help with that. You can play a part in and be a part of this life-changing work just click DONATE at the top of this page

During these 35 years, we’ve run all over Houston and Fort Bend loading up our cars with your generous donations for our PennyWise Resale Shops that support our programs (thank you so very much Everyone). I’ve been on and off the Board many, many times, 'been President of the Board and among other things, founded STARS Auxiliary, that’s raised over $1Million for the FBWC and responsible for this 40 for 40 crowdfunding campaign. GO STARS! :)
We’ve done all this and more so that children like Jacob and women like his mom can live without violence and fear, with dignity and respect, with confidence and self-reliance and with happiness and hope. Won’t you please help us to continue to help?

A BIT MORE ABOUT THE FBWC:
The Fort Bend Women’s Center is the only dedicated domestic violence and sexual assault emergency shelter and crisis hotline in Fort Bend County with almost ½ of our survivors coming from Harris County. Our mission is to help survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and their children to achieve safety and self-sufficiency, while striving to prevent violence against women. Since its inception in 1980, over 50,000 women and children have come through our doors.
We have 22 innovative, Healing and Hope programs dedicated to our survivors’ and their children’s safety and self-sufficiency and we are a major provider of short to long term, affordable housing. As an example of our innovation, we are the only Agency to provide neurofeedback training, a behavioral therapy, to assist clients living with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and/or other mental health disorders.
