Our Students Earn Their College Acceptances Through Grit, Passion and Hard Work
Minds Matter transforms the lives of accomplished high school students from low-income families by broadening their dreams and preparing them for college success. We drive students to realize their potential in a challenging yet highly supportive tutoring and mentoring environment. Minds Matter creates a second-family type of community that students rely on for their academic and personal development. We help students find their talent and potential, nurturing them to become not just college graduates, but leaders who can help shine the light for future generations.
How We Do It
Our three-year program supports students in their sophomore, junior, and senior year, and offers a unique combination of individualized mentoring support and group instruction. Similarly driven peers surround our students with an environment of encouragement and support. Additionally, students are supported by a community of committed volunteer tutors, mentors, and advisors to ensure they are academically, emotionally, and socially prepared to successfully attend and graduate from college. Our support continues through college with everything from help with financial aid to securing summer internships.
The Challenge and Solution
The biggest challenge low-income, minority students face at college is a sense of belonging and community. Too often, there are few others from a similar background, or those who understand the difficulties they face and with whom they can identify and turn to for advice.
We are creating an online community that exemplifies Minds Matter’s culture and values while allowing us to tailor individual support. We will be able to grow our support capacity by providing mentors, coaches, and career advisors to students while in college. Easy access to experienced volunteers and older student alumni can provide the community of support low-income, minority students need to thrive in college.
How you can help
You can help us today by contributing to our campaign to create this vibrant online community of support for our students. Together we can help deserving low-income students create generational change for their families. We can create leaders of tomorrow committed to using their voice to create change in their communities.
