Minding Your Mind: A Celebration of Life
Hi everyone! "Minding Your Mind’s (MYM) primary objective is to provide mental health education to adolescents, teens and young adults, their parents, teachers and school administrators." Through MYM, I'm celebrating the life of my best friend Jamal, who took his life this past November. I want to honor him and share his story so we can prevent more people from losing their best friends to suicide.
A Celebration of Life was launched in 2011 at Vanderbilt University to honor the memory of Kyle Craig, a 21-year-old student who died by suicide. In the seven years since it began in Nashville, this annual event has expanded to New York City, Boston, and Philadelphia, engaging more than 2,400 young professionals in the service of suicide prevention and mental health education. The first A Celebration of Life: Philadelphia event was held in 2016, welcoming 275 attendees at The Union Trust. Thanks to increased awareness of the issues highlighted by the event and positive word of mouth, last year’s second annual A Celebration of Life: Philadelphia sold out at 400 attendees and doubled the funds raised for Minding Your Mind's mental health education programs. In the 2017-18 school year, Minding Your Mind will complete 1,500 presentations to over 300,000 students. Thank you so much for helping me reach my goal, any amount counts and is greatly appreciated!
