My Mom, Mimi Lawnick, passed away last summer from ovarian cancer. She was one tough lady and put up an unbelievable fight against ovarian cancer. With the odds stacked against her, she underwent 2 massive surgeries in less than a year, grueling chemotherapy, and dealt with the complete change to her life with unbelievable grace and positivity. My Mom was a nurse for over 40 years. She was a trauma, ICU and research nurse. My Mom was passionate about doing everything she could to assist in helping find out more information about ovarian cancer and early detection of ovarian cancer. Currently, there is no tests for early detection or screening of ovarian cancer and it is the fifth leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women in the United States . She participated in research trials and studies in her treatment to help in any way she could find out more information about ovarian cancer. We are walking to honor my Mom's and others hard fight against ovarian cancer and to help raise money for research and for the Ovarian Cancer Alliance of San Diego. Ovarian Cancer Alliance of San Diego is working towards advancing cancer research and education of the medical community for early diagnosis; improving the quality of care for patients; and expanding their community outreach program, HEAR, to include all gynecologic cancer awareness to civic groups, organizations and the general public throughout the San Diego County. We want to continue to honor my Mom and remember the remarkable strength, hope, and love she showed through it all and throughout her life! Thank you for walking and/or donating! It means so much! Thank you!
