Hi I'm Miles,
Three years ago, cancer became very real to me. At 9, you start to pay attention to more of what is going on around you. My mom started a job in oncology and she started talking more about how cancer kills African American and Latino people. But what ultimately pushed me over the edge was my granddad who died of cancer. He was crazy about me and saw me as his version 2.0.
My dad had always ridden in the American Cancer Society rides in honor of my grandma Carol Fields, who died of cancer. I said to myself, just like my dad and mom, I would work to help find a cure for cancer. Just like my dad, I committed to riding the ACS ride every year and was one of the youngest riders two years in a row.
This year, the ride was canceled because of COVID-19. So for my 12th birthday, I will sponsor a small bike-a-thon on the Chester Valley Trail to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
We have Miles2Go in finding a cure for cancers. Dr. Fauci said to get outdoors, wear a mask, and stay 6ft apart. We will do just that to stay safe from COVID, and raise money for cancer victims who COVID kills more often.
