As many of you know, my mom lost her battle with cancer in 2015. She was my my first love, my teacher, and my best friend. In her honor, I will be running the SD Rock 'n' Roll half marathon in support of the Colon Cancer Alliance to help raise awareness about the fatal disease.
Colon cancer is the third leading cause of cancer related deaths but it is preventable through adopting a healthier lifestyle and getting screened regularly. Recent studies have found a sharp rise in colon cancer rates among young adults ages 20 - 39, yet most people are still waiting until age 50 to get their first screening. I had my first colonoscopy at the age of 32, when two polyps were found and removed during the procedure. Early detection is the only way to beat colon cancer.. so please DO NOT wait.
Proceeds will be going to the Colon Cancer Alliance, an organization that supports patients undergoing treatment, raises awareness of preventative measures, and funds critical research with a mission to end colon cancer in our lifetime. Thanks for your support!
