Hi everyone,
My name is Kim Engen, and I am starting a fundraiser called Miles 4 Memories to support the Alzheimer’s Association.
For the entire 2018 year, I am going to be competing in 1 race every month to log miles in support of helping the Alzheimer’s Association. This will help bring awareness to Alzheimer's disease, fund more research, and eventually help find a cure!
When I was 22 years old, I lost my grandfather to Alzheimer’s disease. He lived with my family for 8 years, and I saw his progression with the disease. It was very difficult to watch my grandfather change into a different person, and it became very hard to communite with him overtime. Seeing him change really opened my eyes to how this disease affects individuals. This incident drove me to work in senior healthcare and help support those in need. I currently work at an assisted living and memory care facility in Plano, Texas where I see many of my residents and clients suffer from Alzheimer’s disease on a daily basis. Their treatment and care drive me to continue to work with them. I started Miles 4 Memories for my grandfather and for all my residents to help speed more research and treatment options, and to eventually find a cure for Alzheimer’s.
