The Mile High WorkShop is an employment and job training program for those facing barriers to work. We assemble and manufacture products in partnership with our business partners to create work opportunities.
These are unprecedented times for all of us. We don't know what changes will come our way tomorrow, but here are a few things we're committed to as an organization:
Our values are unchanged: Every morning at the shop, we would open with a huddle and reflection on one of our values which are Growing Everyday, Responsible to Each Other, Acting with Integrity, Community of Peace and Excellence in our Work. If it was true two weeks ago, it's still true today. We believe in love and we intend to give it away whether it's in person or digitally.
Our mission is unchanged: We exist to support men and women as they transition into work and wholeness. That just got a lot harder to do, but we're committed to serving our people well, even as our means of doing so are rapidly changing.
We will adapt and we will grow: We know that vulnerable lives become even more so when tragedy strikes. So many are out of work and it's possible that work itself will look very different on the other side of this pandemic. We're already thinking about how we can evolve and serve well in changing times. We believe in beauty from ashes and fully expect to play a role in that process for our community.
This is our operational plan until we know otherwise:
We're planning to start working at the shop this week in very limited "skeleton crews". Many of our jobs have been cancelled or delayed but we still have some work accessible and are pivoting much of our focus towards face mask production for now.
We've been forced to make significant financial cuts and reduce hours. We're operating with dramatically reduced resources but committed to riding this out with the rest of our community.
We're quickly building and rolling out phone and online supports for our crew. One of our strongest and most valued characteristics as an organization is a loving and supportive community and we intend to maintain that.
Super strong emphasis on safety and health procedures. Like everyone, we're doing anything we can to maintain safe working conditions so we'll be staggering shifts and breaks, keeping crews small and cleaning surfaces like crazy.
Thank you for your love and support in these rapidly evolving times. We already knew we were stronger with you before COVID-19 and we're leaning into that truth now more than ever.
