Since 2012, runners in the greater Beacon, NY area have gathered each Fall for the annual Mike Archer Memorial 5K. This yearly event celebrated the life of former Beacon Police Lieutenant Mike Archer who bravely battled esophageal cancer before passing away in 2002. All proceeds from the event, totaling over $33,000 in six years, were donated to the American Cancer Society in hopes of supporting those in the area battling the disease.
This year, due to many exciting events happening in Mike's family this Fall (a wedding, a new home and a new baby!), we won't be hosting the 5K in person. However, we have heard from numerous loyal participants looking for a way to get involved - and for that we are extremely touched and very grateful.
So, we encourage all those looking to carry on the tradition and celebrate Mike's life to run 3.1 miles... wherever you are... on Saturday, November 10th. We hope you'll log your miles in memory of Mike, and his dedication to the Beacon community, and do so as a show of support of all those affected by cancer.
Please share photos of your run, and your reason for running, on social media using #mikearcher5K so that we can virtually share in this special day together!
If, in addition to running, you feel inclined to support the American Cancer Society, we've set up this online fundraising portal to collect donations that will be distributed directly to ACS.
Thank you for your continuous support of this amazing organization and the Mike Archer Memorial 5K - we look forward to running with you again in 2019!
