Midwives for Haiti was founded by a midwife with a big goal: to help the women of Haiti have access to skilled care. Haiti is actually the most dangerous country in the Western Hemisphere to give birth due to the lack of resources, shortage of skilled birth attendants, poor infrastructure, and barriers to access care. Most of the deaths are preventable... caused by eclampsia, sepsis, and postpartum hemorrhage. In 2014, there was one doctor for 8,000 inhabitants, one nurse for 6,000 inhabitants, and one midwife for 50,000 inhabitants. The goal of Midwives for Haiti is to help train skilled birth attendants and to raise awareness to help decrease these health disparities. This is done through the efforts of volunteers teaching in the classrooms, precepting in the hospitals, and helping provide care. They also rely on us for medical and non medical supplies (donations) as well as helping raise awareness for monetary donations.
I will be going to Haiti June 9-16th to help with these efforts. I am accepting donated supplies and am also accepting monetary donations. The efforts raised on this platform are going directly to the organization and are tax deductible.
If you are interested in helping me with the travel and program expenses, please reach out to me. I am also accepting donations to help fund my trip on venmo: @chanel-blanchard.
Any and everything is appreciated. Thank you for considering supporting my efforts with Midwives for Haiti!
