Earth Camp is an exciting residential camp experience for 9th-grade students sponsored by the Earth and Environmental Sciences Department at the University of Michigan. Students stay in college dorms at UM to experience college life while participating in field trips and hand-on explorations of earth science. Students are be exposed to science in a completely different way and form deep and lasting friendships.
This summer’s Earth Camp is off to a successful start - 20 students just returned from Sleeping Bear Dunes and 30 more will travel to Michigan's Upper Peninsula in late July for a week-long geology field trip. Four Earth Camp alumni have matriculated to the University of Michigan for Fall 2019. This brings the total to eight at U-M from two cohorts of 20 students. Of the four new arrivals, two have already declared a major in our department: Trinity Pryor from Detroit, and Idrees Schieber from Kalamazoo.
To help fund Earth Camp’s summer field trips, which are offered at no-cost to participants, we are launching an online crowdfunding effort starting July 22nd and running through the alumni event at Camp Davis August 20th. Please support this amazing program by making a gift to our campaign!
Please note that gifts on this site will be processed and receipted securely through the PayPal Giving Fund. If you'd rather give through the U-M online giving site you can do that here.
