I will be running the 2020 Bank of America Chicago Marathon on Sunday, October 11th for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).
This cause is close to my heart for a number of reasons - I've lost people close to me and my children have lost classmates and best friends. It's heartbreaking. Sadly, it's far too common, most people have felt the tragic effects of such a loss. My goal is to aid suicide prevention. The money I raise for AFSP will fund scientific research, educate the public, promote policies and legislation that impact suicide, and support survivors of suicide loss and people at risk.
For me, running is symbolic. Throughout my life, I have been exposed to mental illness in varying degrees, amongst my family, my friends, and myself. Running has served as an outlet for me over the years, I am thankful for the peace and strength this sport has provided me. This will be my 15th marathon. I'll be running, alongside my daughter and my niece, to shed light on mental illness.
