***Update 2: You all are blowing away my expectations! We've hit the new goal. Thank you Bob & Anne, Kari & Bill, Jason, Hillary, & Kristen!! You've covered the cost of 3 students! We still have time on the clock so we're going to try for double the original goal: $300***
***Update: we've reached the initial $150 goal so I'm increasing it by $75. Now we can cover the cost of one more student! Thank you! I'm closing up this campaign on Friday, so just two more days to go***
Hi friends! I'm raising a quick, cool $150 for REACH - Refugee Education & Adventure Challenge - here in Chicago. REACH is offering their first ever overnight winter camp this January 2019 for sixteen refugee youth – specially requested by the youth themselves. $150 will cover the cost of two of those sixteen youth to attend ($75 per student) and have the time of their life!
REACH inspires leadership, academic success, and connections among refugee youth through active dynamic learning outside the traditional classroom. We're talking mountain biking, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, climbing, camping, forest restoration, river clean-ups, and more – activities they would otherwise never be exposed to. How cool is that?
Refugee youth are often isolated from the community and their new environment. Their success – academically, economically, and socially – strongly depends on these youth’s interaction with this new environment. REACH inspires and challenges refugee youth to step out of their comfort zones, to connect to others and their environs, and to discover a sense of space. Through experiential learning activities, REACH aims to awaken relationships between learning, living, and the land.
