The Anacortes Cancer Walk was created after my Dad passed away. His name was Barnel Bragg. He was treated at Island Hospital's Cancer Care Center for colon cancer and passed away in 2012.
While my Dad was being treated I would walk with him in the hallways of Island Hospital. He would look on the walls as we passed the photographs and say, "Karla, I sure would love to look at your photographs while we walk."
After he died, I donated a few pieces to the hospital. I wanted to do more though.
I had participated in dozens of walks around the state prior to this and knew in my heart that I wanted to start my own walk. A walk where all of the proceeds stayed local, a walk where there was no question where the money raised was going.
With the support from the community of Anacortes and surrounding communities, the Anacortes Cancer Walk has helped over 150 families being treated at Island Hospital's Merle Cancer Care Center.
In 2018 Your Story Foundation became a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity.
