The Auburn Ski Association (ASA) provides an after school learn-to-ski-and ride program at Lost Valley for Auburn elementary school students through the Merrick Chadbourne Memorial Fund. The Merrick Learn to Ski/ride Program has been in existence since 2012 and has taught hundreds area youth to enjoy the outdoor winter recreation of skiing and snowboarding
Each week for four weeks the kids are provided transportation to and from Lost Valley from their elementary school, a group lesson, a lift ticket, and ski rentals. This is provided at a greatly reduced cost to the fmaily of the child with the large remaining expenses underwritten by the Merrick Chadbourne memorial fund (managed by the ASA). Scholarships are provided at the outset of the registration process giving families in need priority to enroll, prior to opening full open enrollment.
The goal of this program is to give kids the opportunity to be introduced to skiing and get out and be active during the long winter months here in Maine. Learning to ski or snowboard is a life time recreation for Mainers to enjoy our beautiful Maine winter.
Merrick loved to ski and would suggest to anyone he met that they should learn also, so it is especially fitting this program continues to be funded in his name. Miles and Melinda were especially touched that so many program kids parents reached out to tell them what a confidence booster learning to ski has been in their children's lives. The ASA and Lost Valley along with Miles and Melinda wish to continue fundraising for the Learn to Ski Program in Merrick’s name. We hope you will make a donation to the Merrick Chadbourne Memorial Fund and help continue our efforts to provide healthy and fun winter activity to kids in the Auburn/Lewiston area.
