The mentor program provides our older campers with a new adventure as they serve the CSC community by assisting in the care and guidance of younger campers. This year, we wanted to add a new dimension to the program with an off site trip to assist a local non-profit program that serves the homeless and those transitioning out of homelessness. We have partnered with Lifestyles of Southern Maryland. Our mentors are visiting Lifestyles for a our and to assist with preparing meals, sorting donations, working at the Southern Crossing project and any other work that is needed. Southern Crossing is a huge renovation project that will convert an old motel building into affordable housing for folks who are transitioning from homelessness to independence. It is an exciting project and will serve needy families in our area. Mentors will spend one morning assisting at Lifestyles. We are asking for help with the cost of bus transportation to and from the Lifestyles site in Laplata, Md. Our first group of volunteers enjoyed their trip and helped to provide weekend meals for children served by the summer meals program, who might otherwise go hungry over the weekends when the summer meals program is not operating. Thank you for your support of Camp St. Charles and for providing this opportunity for our Mentors to serve in the community!
