The Mentone Arts & Cultural Center (MACC) works to promote, educate and inspire current and future generations in all aspects of the arts. We are located in the rural southern foothills of the Appalachian range. Mentone, Alabama is a tiny arts hamlet (pop. 425) that draws tens of thousands of tourists to the area for its scenic beauty. Mentone's regional market that includes Atlanta, Huntsville, Ala., Birmingham, Ala, and Chattanooga.
We have been approved by USA Today to compete in A Community Thrives grants competition for $100,000, $50,000, $25,000, $15,000 or $10,000. Plus they are giving away four $25,000 grants to the campaigns that raise the most money through A Community Thrives here on Crowdrise.
While fundraising to build a multi-use arts and cultural facility, we are busy hosting musical events, plays, and educational workshops at our temporary home.
MACC also has created an outreach program for students in DeKalb County, Alabama. The program utilizes artist-in-residence Sandra Lafferty to work with Fort Payne High School drama students and students in the DeKalb County Fine Arts Academy. Lafferty is a nationally acclaimed actor with more than 60 movie and television roles including The Hunger Games, Walk the Line, A Walk in the Woods and Prisoners. Thanks to a starter grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts, we have been able to expand the outreach program. Still, we need a great deal more in order to offer additional professionals and resources in other arts-related disciplines. Funds from the CrowdRise drive will be used for expand this program and pay our director's salary.
