Long Island is emerging from the pandemic, and the Mental Health Association of Nassau County is calling on Long Islanders to JOIN US TODAY in restoring health and hope to our communities. Millions of people are suffering from depression, trauma, PTSD, anxiety and grief after almost 18 months of COVID-19 and the attendant economic shutdowns. You can see the devastating impacts of this crisis on our families, workplaces and society at large, and there has never been a more urgent need for mental health support than there is today.
More than 42% of people surveyed by the US Census Bureau in December of 2020 reported symptoms of anxiety or depression in December, an increase from just 11% the previous year. This staggering statistic is a sign of what experts are saying will be a catastrophic rise in mental illness in the coming months.
That is why the MHANC needs your help now! MHANC is a home for all Long Islanders living with mental illness who cannot find help elsewhere. It is a recovery center with no walls – a place that meets you where you are. It is not a quick fix, but a total lifestyle change. We help veterans, children, families, people experiencing homelessness, people recovering from addiction, professionals and parents alike to transform their lives and overcome the many daily challenges of mental illness.
MHANC is rolling out ambitious plans to reach each and every Long Islander searching for a helping hand with seemingly nowhere to turn. We are asking our friends, family and supporters to become a champion for mental health by supporting our Mental Health Matters Campaign. Will you make a donation that will ensure your neighbors can experience true and lasting health and happiness?
Your contribution will support:NY Project Hope: MHANC’s statewide crisis counseling hotline that provides emotional support, resources and public education to New Yorkers struggling to cope with the challenges of the pandemic. Safe Space: New virtual group counseling program that gives Long Island residents access to MHANC’s top-tier services from wherever they are. Veterans Health Alliance of Long Island (VHALI) – MHANC’s flagship veterans program that connects veterans excluded from traditional service providers with peer networks, job trainings, group counseling and family support. Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) – Comprehensive family and youth person-centered supports that enable adults and children with mental illness to receive the custom care they need to thrive at home, in school and in the community.
These are just a few of the high-quality support services MHANC offers to community members in need. Now is the time to band together to make sure no one on Long Island is left alone without hope in the wake of the pandemic.
Will you make a gift today to help us reach our goal of $5,000 to make sure MHANC’s vision for a healthy and thriving Long Island becomes reality?
