When Nick and Meliza lived in Boston, they lived on the notorious "Methadone Mile." Every day, they saw the combined effects of housing insecurity, substance abuse, mental illness, and chronic physical illness that affected those living on the streets in their community. Homelessness is a huge issue in Boston, and young, LGBTQ POCs are particularly at risk for becoming homeless. Rising housing costs, limited shelter space, and gentrification continue to plague Boston's population, driving even more people out into the frigid winters which continue to get more extreme due to the impacts of climate change.
Nick and Meliza are passionate about providing resources to prevent further suffering due to homelessness in the city that they called home. In lieu of gifts, please consider contributing to the Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program (BHCHP) - an integrated care model for the Boston homeless population. BHCHP, located a quarter-mile from Nick and Meliza's old apartment, provides needed medical, oral, and behavioral health care; family services; housing resources; services for transgender folks; and more to the Boston homeless population.
