Dear Family and Friends:
Melissa asked me to help her write a note this year. As you know, in previous years, she has composed a note that was reflective of her past year. This year, she is struggling to find the words.
Melissa suffered a concussion while playing at a Special Olympics basketball tournament at the end of February that left her getting frequent headaches and struggling to ‘find the right words’ at times. It’s been an eye-opening experience for us. This is especially tough because you can’t ‘see’ the injury. I had certainly heard about concussions (a bruised brain) for years, but what I didn’t understand was how debilitating a concussion could be. We now have a clearer, more sensitive understanding of how doing everyday activities such as answering a question, walking in a grocery store, and even going for a walk triggers the brain to start working, thereby causing it to hurt. She is much better, but asked for my help at this time.
I want to share a hand written note from Melissa that I keep on my desk. When things get tough, it simply motivates me to take the next step.
"Life has knocked me down a few times. It has shown me things I never wanted to see, I have experienced sadness and failures, but one thing is for sure..., I always get up."
Hope Fest is a short two weeks away on July 20th. We know this is late, but your support of Melissa and her continued efforts to fundraise for Tomorrow’s Hope would be appreciated
Thank you ... We hope you’ll join us on July 20th!
