Greetings! In April, 2018, Melinda, Walter & Racey will be volunteering for a week in Haiti at Devoted to Children, a wonderful organization whose mission is to "meet the immediate and basic needs of the most vulnerable children in the village of Cayes Jacmel, Haiti and to empower them to become independent, educated and thriving community members." We are seeking donations to make the trip possible.
Some background as to why we've chosen this organization. Melinda and Racey first went to Haiti in 2011 with their former church. It was a mission trip to Ouanaminthe to work with children at Instituition Univers'. Racey was only 6 at the time but did great and loved the experience, as did I! We wanted to go on the next trip with our church but the age requirement had changed and Racey wasn't allowed to go. We were both heartbroken but I was committed to finding something that we could do together. I didn't search hard but trusted it would come if it was meant to be.
I saw a picture on FB, one day in 2013, of a colleague holding a child that looked to be Haitian. I followed up with her and discovered Devoted to Children. After exploring their mission it felt like the right place to support. At 8 years old, Racey was the first child to do a trip with them and that has paved the way for many more parents to feel comfortable taking their children on a lifechanging trip with D2C.
This trip is special because it is the last trip we will take to Haiti for a while. Racey enters high school this fall and we wanted to get there one more time. It's been 5 years, which is hard to believe! We've wanted to go before now but it just didn't work out. This trip is also special because Walter will be joining us. The trip falls on his school break, and as it turns out this trip's project needs people with building skills, which he has aplenty! It will be very special to do this as a family for the first time.
As you learn about this organization I think you too will see how special and different it is, and what an important need it fills in the community. Thank you for any support you can give us! We really appreciate it but more importantly the children and employees of D2C appreciate it!! Love- Melinda, Walter & Racey
