It's Karaoke Battle time again... So before the songs, dance moves, and epic costume changes are all revealed on Friday, I want to share a few words about why I fundraise for CAAAV.
CAAAV's mission to organize working-class Asian immigrant tenants is one that motivates me, that humbles me, that teaches me, and that more than once has knocked me flat on my face - and propped me right back up. Last week, I had to call the NYC Marshal's office every day to try and make sure a certain family's eviction wasn't scheduled. This week, we rallied with hundred of tenants around the city for a rent freeze - and next week, a bus full of Chinatown tenants will take a trip to Albany to demand a stronger voice in government.
It's impossible to know what challenges, losses, & joys each week will bring. But despite all that, there is one thing I know for sure - our movement is growing, and we have the ability to dream & win our wildest, liberatory dreams for the future.
Every day, the CAAAV community teaches me more about struggle, strength, and resiliency. Fundraising is one way that I honor those lessons & work to strengthen the world we've built together.
(But don't worry, making a fool of myself by singing at the Karaoke Battle is also another way!!)
Please donate if you can! And join us at the Karaoke Battle this Friday, May 10th, at 7PM, 39 Eldridge Street in Chinatown!
