In an effort to increase the bee population in the Puget Sound region, The Common Acre will release the first Field Guide to Bees of the Puget Sound Lowlands on June 21 during Pollinator Week 2018 (June 18-24).
Wild bees contribute to billions of dollars a year in global pollination services. However, relatively little is known about these precious pollinators in the Puget Sound Region. The guide will help the community learn more about bees and their vital role in our ecosystem.
"The rapid development in our area is making a big impact on bees' habitats. Bees need dirt, not just flowers to survive. That's why it's important to understand all of the species in our area and make room for them to thrive," Executive Director Allison Rinard said. "We've partnered with SeaTac, Seattle City Light, and Boeing Everett to find land and develop new habitats for our regional bees, but we also need community involvement."
That's where you come in!
