In Ukraine, parents of children with special needs are encouraged to hand their children over to state care. They are told their children are a burden on society. Children are sent to institutions where they are subjected to abuse and neglect. There is minimal support available to parents who fight to keep their children with them. Maya's Hope wants to help relieve some of the burden on these amazing parents and assist in keeping children with their families, where they belong. Andryusha is 8 years old. He is the youngest and long-awaited child in the family. But, like his older sister, he is seriously ill.
From birth, he fights for life. Born at 34 weeks pregnant, Andryusha was in intensive care and then to the hospital for a long month and a half. In the future, life left more and more new diagnoses. Autism, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, hemorrhagic vasculitis, etc. His life is a series of analyzes, examinations, consultations with doctors, taking medications. And also pain ... In muscles, bones, joints.
Mom raises children alone, because Dad left the family before the birth of Andryusha. She can’t work, as she takes care of her son and also has a disability.
Andrey is in need of medications and a portable testing kit (to test actate, lactic acid, triglycerides, glucose). From his mother:
"Andrey has mitochondrial pathology. Blood lactate, triglycerides, cholesterol are very high. There is insulin resistance (you need to control blood glucose). Analyzes should be taken regularly. But for us it is very problematic.Andrei has autism and it is very difficult to keep in order to take blood (he is large enough for his age). In addition, lactate can only be handed over in the laboratory of another city, where it is very difficult to transport a hungry and upset autistic person (by public transport).
In addition, lactate must be taken in a calm state, which is unrealistic when taking blood from a vein. And we need to know the exact result, because indicators like ours testify to lactic acidosis (a life-threatening condition). Active physical activity before giving blood gives a false-enhanced result.
When taking blood from a finger (especially with a special device), the entire procedure will be calm and the result will be accurate. This device will greatly help the monitoring of these indicators."
Can you help make life a little easier for Andrey and his family?
