In Ukraine, parents of children with special needs are encouraged to hand their children over to state care. They are told their children are a burden on society. Children are sent to institutions where they are subjected to abuse and neglect. There is minimal support available to parents who fight to keep their children with them. Maya's Hope wants to help relieve some of the burden on these amazing parents and assist in keeping children with their families, where they belong.
Vika is 4 years old. She is a smart and caring girl who loves cats! Her mother says she wants to bring home every cat they meet on the street.
Vika has Type 1 Diabetes. She has an insulin pump and tests her blood sugar levels several times a day. It is a hard disease to manage, especially for a very young child. But Vika doesn't let anything get her down. She has learned how to check her blood sugar levels and can identify if they are too high or too low.
The cost of all the consumables (sensors, test strips, lancets, alcohol wipes) needed to monitor her diabetes is very high. But they are essential to her safety and health.
This is why Vika and her mother need your help. US$800 will help purchase what she needs for the next three months. If we exceed our goal, we will be able to help her for longer! Every dollar counts and helps keep Vika healthy.
