When Meb Keflezighi ran his first competitive race in the seventh grade, his motivation was simple: to get a t-shirt for his school’s running club that his older brothers also wore.
I would like to say that my “running career” began in a similar way. Though our running careers may have diverged, I'm excited to announce that I’ll be running the 2020 Boston Marathon on behalf of the MEB Foundation!
Meb is the winner of the 2014 Boston Marathon and 2009 NYC Marathon, as well as a 2004 Olympic Marathon Silver Medalist. With his historic win at the 2014 Boston Marathon, Meb Keflezighi cemented his legacy as one of the great champions of long-distance running. Two weeks prior to his 39th birthday, he defeated the best field in Boston Marathon history and become the first American man to win the race in 31 years!
With all this success, Meb appreciated the opportunity provided to him through running and recently launched MEB Foundation to use his platform to benefit others. Today his foundation works to help promote children’s health, education and fitness, all through “Maintaining Excellent Balance" (MEB).
Seeking balance has been an integral overarching theme of my life as I’ve matured into my current self. Living a mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically healthy life has been a constant motivating principle.
The MEB Foundation’s work and mission focus in areas that I am strongly passionate—youth health, wellness, fitness, education and opportunity through education. The foundation supports programs and events that focuses on three key issues:
1. Health: Provide the tools and resources to lead healthy lifestyles. Empower youth and their families to “Maintain Excellent Balance”
2. Education: Engage children in academics, in and out of school hours
3. Fitness: Provide opportunities for children to play and learn positive life skills through involvement in sports
"Like a marathon, life can sometimes be difficult, challenging and present obstacles, however if you believe in your dreams and never ever give up, things will turn out for the best." -- Meb Keflezighi
If this resonates with you, I’d be honored to have your support as a part of Team MEB Boston. I am grateful for your support and generosity in this endeavor! Please share this page and donate what you can.
