60 years ago, Walter and Lucy McCrone founded a pioneer, nonprofit institute on Chicago's South Side that has trained generations of scientists to become successful microscopists. More than 30,000 students from 6 continents have used the microscopy education they gained through the McCrone Research Institute to solve some of the world’s most difficult scientific problems and address life-challenging issues in the public and private sector. McCrone's distinctive approach to applied research, publishing, and teaching of analytical microscopy has led the way to improvements in environmental and public safety, criminal justice, art authentication and conservation, food quality, consumer safety, and countless other fields improving the quality of life for all.
Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19), all McCrone Research Institute operations and programs have been temporarily suspended and we have gone to an on-demand course schedule. After 60 years of providing scientific and educational service and for the first time in our organization’s history, we are asking for your help.
In response to this once-in-a-century crisis, the Institute's leadership is charting a new course for success by creating a viable operating model and exploring ways in which we will once again deliver world-class microscopy education, research, and publishing.
While our needs at this time exceed the current goal, we have set our initial goal at a level which will support our most pressing and immediate needs.
Please make a gift today to preserve the legacy of Walter and Lucy McCrone and sustain the historic McCrone Research Institute for current and future generations of scientists. Your gift, at any level, is greatly appreciated.
