Update: Thank you to all who donated to help us fund our Thanksgiving meal distribution. It was a great success, thanks to your donations and our amazing volunteers. While we made a dent in the amount needed to cover associated costs, we did fall short of our goal, and will soon need to plan for meals for Christmas, as well as gifts for our shelter guests to share the magic of Christmas! Your gifts continue to be most appreciated and needed as we navigate wave 2 of the pandemic and new ways of working
The holiday season is fast approaching.
It’s typically our busiest time here at MCCNY Charities. Between the colder weather and family gatherings, we see a lot of new and returning faces to our food pantry and shelter.
We do everything we can to help ensure everyone can enjoy the holiday season as intended. In the past we have held events and gatherings for clients, including our annual shelter reunion Thanksgiving dinner. We also offer additional grocery distributions to give everyone what they need for a proper thanksgiving meal, and come Christmas we have a holiday party and offer gifts for children and shelter guests.
Of course, all holidays are going to look a bit different this year. And that’s why we need your help. We know this holiday season will be challenging. For everyone. Family gatherings will be limited, travel will be less, and due to the economic climate, we’re expecting more families than ever for our holiday grocery distribution.
Typically, we receive donations of turkeys and other rations for the holidays from the city and other donors. With this year’s pandemic, these resources have been depleted. But we still need to feed those in our community who might otherwise go hungry this season.
We estimate we will need $6,000 for this year’s holiday meal, to ensure we can serve all who rely on our food pantry. Can you help us meet this goal? Any donation, no matter how big or small will make a difference in many New Yorker’s lives.
Thank you for your continued support and kindness!
