MCCNY Charities and Sylvia Rivera Food Pantry was founded with the goal of achieving the late Sylvia Rivera’s vision that no members of our community be forgotten. Since our humble beginnings, we’ve sought to move forward that mission by providing social services for the homeless and the hungry, including people living with HIV/AIDS, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex (LGBTQI+) youth.
The current Coronavirus pandemic has furthered that mission, as the LGBTQI+ community is particularly vulnerable during this crisis. As such, we have seen a sharp increase in need for support. Our daily lunch service, which provides quality lunch and beverage items to those who need is has seen an astronomical increase in daily drop-ins. Our weekly grocery service has seen need increase by over 200%. And due to the nature of this disease, we have also begun home deliveries, so those most at risk can stay in the comfort and safety of their own homes and still receive much needed sustenance.
In addition to serving the LGBTQI+ community, we firmly believe that no person should go hungry and have been working tirelessly to ensure ALL are fed. No person will be turned away from our food pantry.
For this reason, we need your support. We have partnerships with many restaurants and services in the local community, but resources are dwindling and we have additional overhead with the addition of food delivery, requiring gas for our numerous volunteers.
We’ve set a goal of raising $5k that will go directly to resources to help the Sylvia Rivera Food Pantry continue to operate optimally. No gift is too small. If you are able to, please consider donating now!
