"Getting outside - strolling through city parks, being challenged on remote trails, descending beneath the waves - is a privilege I have come to associate with tranquility and belonging. However, I am reminded each time I get out to adventure that people who look or love like me don’t often feel safe or welcome outside. This adventure is a chance for me to be a small but definite presence on a popular thru-hike as someone proudly taking up space on trail as a queer WOC. I hope that my embarking on this trail will encourage young women like myself to feel empowered to take up space on future outdoor adventures." - Maya
